FAQ

What is Cryotherapy?

Cryotherapy, as defined by Merriam-Webster, means “the therapeutic use of cold.” This means any form of cold therapy, from ice packs, to cold tubs to plunges in the cold, wintered ocean. Sound inviting? Didn’t think so!

How is the Whole Body Cryotherapy (WBC) administered?

There are presently two forms of WBC in the US. One uses a cylinder which is open-faced and cooled with liquid nitrogen. Cumbersome, incomplete, limited to one person per treatment, along with the potentially dangerous use of liquid nitrogen; not the best choice.

Is Cryotherapy dangerous?

Our Whole Body Cryotherapy treatments are not dangerous. Our trained cryotechs are always present during the treatment so to monitor the temperature levels, as well as your comfort and safety. Unlike the liquid nitrogen cylinders the competitors use, our chamber supplies the treatment with safe cold air.

Are there any reasons why I shouldn’t do a cryotherapy session?

Most people can do WBC. There are some contraindications to the treatment though. You should avoid WBC if you are pregnant, or have: narrowing of valves, crescent-shaped aorta and mitral valve, chronic disease of the respiratory system, severe hypertension (blood pressure > 180/100), acute or recent myocardial infarction (heart attack; need to be cleared for exercise), arrhythmia, symptomatic cardiovascular disease, acute or recent cerebrovascular accident (stroke; must be cleared for exercise), uncontrolled seizures, fever, symptomatic lung disorders, bleeding disorders, infection, intolerance to cold, age less than 18 years (parental consent to session needed), incontinence. If you have questions about whether you have any risk, you should first ask your healthcare provider before using WBC.

Is it comfortable?

Yes! Our Whole Body Cryotherapy treatments are comfortable in that we use cold, dry air. Most users claim that after the first session, they welcome getting back in. Like anything, the anticipation of something new can be exaggerated.

How long does a Whole Body Cryotherapy session last?

WBC takes 3 minutes but you should plan on 20 minutes from arrival to exit for changing, prepping and warming back up after treatment. Great way to start or end your day!

I’m claustrophobic. Can I still use the Cryo Chamber?

Absolutely. Our Cryo Chamber is enclosed with a glass door that is unlocked and can be pushed open at any time. You are always in control. Also, remember that our chamber has the capacity for two people, so if you want company, it’s always an option.

What do I wear during my treatment?

It is preferred you wear as little as possible in order to reap the most benefits of the treatment. This means shorts for men and shorts and jogging bra for woman. Feeling a bit more self-conscious, you can always wear a t-shirt with those shorts. We will also provide mittens, socks, foot protection, surgical mask and cap or ear covering, to protect your extremities from the cold.

Do I shower before or after my treatment?

There is no showering involved with Whole Body Cryotherapy. Our treatments are completely dry which makes it a great therapy just prior to going to work, or out on the town!

How soon after my treatment can I expect results?

It depends on the results you are trying to achieve. We generally recommend 2-3 treatments per week to see best results. Boca Cryo cannot guarantee specific results, however we can tell you that you’ll likely feel positive changes after completing your very first treatment. Your body’s acute response to the treatment results in an increased release of endorphins, the body’s natural mood elevator. This feel-good benefit can last for several hours. Depending on your physical condition, you may feel immediate relief from joint and muscle pain, improved energy, and increased flexibility that can last for several hours or even days.
